Thank You! A Must See!
29 July 2015 | by kanona29 (United States) – See all my reviews

All I can say is Thank You!!! This is what I want to see when I go to the movies looking to enjoy a good summer blockbuster!!! Man, talk about a fun ride. It was humorous, exciting, thrilling, suspenseful, and well worth the price of admission.

Tom Cruise really gets it when it comes to entertaining your average moviegoer and he doesn't disappoint. But the truth is, no one disappoints in this summer flick. All parties brought their 'A' game and played their part perfectly. The female lead (Rebecca Ferguson) really held her own alongside Ethan Hunt and the crew and hopefully we'll see her in future installments, if there is more. Based on this current installment, there should definitely be more.

MI:1 is a classic in my eyes and I've watched it countless times, but I must say, Rogue Nation...well, it's a lot more fun and I do feel it is a better film overall. I will be watching this one again and again. And don't wait for it to come to video...this is a movie you must see in theaters for the full experience.

Also, let me just say the stunt sequences are thrilling...thrilling I say!! Very limited CGI in this film, which made the action scenes even more exciting and dare I say it again...thrilling! Lots of gasp worthy moments.

I won't give away any spoilers as that would ruin the exciting action sequences and fun twists. This is enjoyable from beginning to end. So just go see it!!!

A masterpiece on a massive scale.
11 May 2015 | by sukhmanjitcheema (sukhmanjitcheema@hotmail.com) (United States) – See all my reviews

George Miller returns with a bang and takes the helm of this crazy 2hr bonkers extravaganza named Mad Max: Fury Road. First of all, the stunts and action sequences are SPECTACULAR. Tom Hardy breaths life into Max Rockatansky and Charlize Theron is excellent and emotionally perfect as Furiosa. The story opens, with Immortan Joe who has young ladies as his wives, but he'll goes down when they escape the sadist's hands. Max, who has a violent past with Joe's cronies, decides to help Imperior Furiosa take the girls somewhere safe. Furiosa can't trust Max, and neither can he. So it all comes down to Joe's cronies fighting against them reaching to their destination. The movie is a bananas car chase for the runtime, as Max and Furiosa work together to fight against the evils. And then, there is Nux, a bonkers "really skin coloured" guy, who works with Joe, played well by Nicholas Hoult. The 3D really pays off, and is worth the extra ticket. The movie puts all other action movies of shame, the effects really pop out. Well, this is a definite masterpiece. One of the best movies of the year, one of the best action movies ever made and the role of Theron's life. Miller is truly a mastermind as stated clearly in the trailer. This exceeded my expectations, and will exceed yours as well. The dark style, dark comedy and the over the top characters make a return in this reboot. Must watch, and worth the extra IMAX 3D ticket.

A Nutshell Review: Transporter 3
25 December 2008 | by DICK STEEL (Singapore) – See all my reviews

I'm beginning to see a pattern here, and I'm thinking that The Transporter, if it has the legs for more movies, could be the franchise equivalent of being a poor man's cousin to James Bond. Created and written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen for three installments so far, the character of Frank Martin is a roguish looking strongman with a penchant for suiting up when going about being the best of the best in personalized delivery, with no questions asked, no names, and a whole host of other rules which he will of course break during the course of the movie.

Like Bond, he drives a cool, sponsored signature car. While Bond has his Aston Martins and BMWs, Frank Martin traded his BM in the first movie, for the armoured Audi A8 W12 which he has brought over from the second film, and here, that sweet supercar got to be put through even more punishment. It also shows itself to be a cut about the rest in being waterproof too, and an occasional dunk in the river won't put out the powerful engine, with tyres that self-inflate too (ok, so just in case you don't realize, I'm pointing out mistakes).

And it follows the Bond formula in having the Chick of the Flick highlight too. Shu Qi came on board in the first film as the vixen who traded her body to convince Frank to take the job. Then we had the good girl-bad girl combination for Part 2 with Amber Valletta and Kate Nauta respectively. Here, model Natalya Rudakova, with her very obvious freckles getting in the way, continues from where Shu Qi left off, being the flower vase who can't speak English fluently no thanks to her strong accent, and that's fine since their characters hail from a non-English speaking country.

Director at the helm has been round robin too (now by Olivier Megaton), with Hong Konger Corey Yuen crafting the first movie, before taking the back seat in every film by taking charge of how Frank Martin does hand to hand combat. So we do get to see some consistency in the technique that Jason Statham adopts in performing martial arts and various stunt work on his own, and Statham definitely has what it takes to fill up the void of having the lack of Western action heroes on the big screen. I suppose with more hits under his belt (pardon the pun) he could cement this status, and I sincerely hope that he avoids the plague of being relegated in his later years to the direct to video market.

As far as the story goes, it just provides a basic premise and an excuse to see how our hero gets to sit behind the wheel again. The Frank Martin now is more laid back, and spends most of his leisure time with the French detective Tarconi (Francois Berleand) whom he has befriended now. Until of course his reputation catches up with him, and in a Crank inspired moment, has to do what he does best for the bad guys, much against his wishes. The villains almost always seem to be part of what's topical at the moment, and this time Frank Martin has to contend with some eco-terrorists who are blackmailing a minister, involving some permit for industrial waste.

But who cares about any semblance of the plot anyway? We're looking for some adrenaline pumping, high octane action aren't we all? And here's where it takes a slide for the worse actually. Unlike Bond, there isn't anything new or refreshing to keep the audience engaged and away from the deja-vu feeling. For some reason, Besson and Kamen's story seemed to be stuck in a lot of drama and talk-talk-talk, giving our hero not much time to flex his muscles. And when he gets the chance to, it's the same old one-man-surrounded-by-thugs routine where he effortlessly dispatches them all with aplomb.

Such fight scenes are becoming common in The Transporter franchise, and Corey Yeun definitely needs to rejuvenate his action sequences designed for the franchise pronto. There are only two major fisticuffs scenes, and they all follow the same routine, which spells boring. And apart from that, we get the usual complementary car chases which seem to be rather standard with the usual camera shots and angles capturing the action too.

Fans of the series and of Statham will no doubt make a bee line at the box office for this, but I suspect that should there be any more thoughts on extending the franchise beyond the three films, then while the formulaic plot format can be kept, the action better be innovative because nobody likes seeing the same thing twice. Since different directors got a chance to have a go at the franchise, perhaps a change in action choreographers might give Frank Martin the lift that he needs.

Hardy terrific, film so so
13 September 2015 | by scott_thompson7454 (London, England) – See all my reviews

I was really looking forward to this one; the trailers were great and, whilst I'm not one of those who glamourise the Krays (they loved their mums, would do anything for you blah blah blah), I do find it bizarrely fascinating how the Krays/Richardsons have passed into London folklore. Alas, it's a bit of a let down. Hardy throws himself into both roles, by turns amusing and scary as Ronnie and compelling as a Reggie trying to build an empire while struggling to keep his brother in check. But he is let down by a clunky structure, it takes a while to get going and subplots and characters are introduced and then discarded on a whim, an awful Frances Kray voice-over, and an uneven script which can't quite decide if it wants to be an American style gangster flick or tread the same path as The Long Good Friday, Get Carter et al. And who let Duffy and her nails down a blackboard voice back in? I really hoped we'd seen the last of her after that crap Diet Coke ad. The club scenes aren't quite working guys. I know, let's get Duffy, stuck a wig on her and she can caterwaul her way through some 60s classics. High five!!!

The original movie is a much better film!

'SECRET IN THEIR EYES': Three Stars (Out of Five)

An American remake, of the 2009 Argentine thriller 'THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES' (which won the 2010 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film). The movie tells the story of a former FBI investigator, who's still trying to track down the killer, of his old partner's teenage daughter; 13 years later. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and Dean Norris. It was written and directed by Billy Ray; based on the Argentine book 'The Question in Their Eyes' (by Eduardo Sacheri), and the script adapted from it (written by Sacheri and Juan Jose Campanella). I saw the original movie, and it's a much better film!

Two FBI agents, Ray (Ejiofor) and Jess (Roberts), are investigating the scene of a murder, when they discover that Jess's daughter (Zoe Graham) is the victim. They're able to track down, and arrest, the most likely suspect (Joe Cole); but he's set free, due to the fact that he's a government informant. Ray obsesses over the case, for 13-years, until he relocates the man, he thinks is the same suspect. He comes back to Los Angeles, after leaving the FBI, and asks his old supervisor (Kidman), who he's also long had feelings for, to reopen the case.

The original Argentine film was fantastic; I gave it 4.5 stars (out of 5), back when I first saw it (in 2010). This movie is well-made, to a certain extent, and well-acted; but it definitely doesn't live up to the original. Ejiofor and Roberts both give outstanding performances, in the film though, like they always do; and the scene of Roberts finding her murdered daughter, is hauntingly memorable. The movie is worth seeing, just to watch the two of them.

I haven't stopped thinking about 'Brooklyn' since
6 November 2015 | by tarakate-54315 (Ireland) – See all my reviews

Wow,Brooklyn, easily one of the best films I have seen in a long time. Once you see it you can't stop thinking about it especially if you've made a similar journey to Eilish's,which nearly everyone has. Although it's set in the 1950s, 'Brooklyn'is still universal today. Saoirse Ronan gives her best (Oscar worthy) performance along with Emory Cohen in this magnificent coming-of-age tale about becoming independent, finding love and carving out your own path in life.Julie Walters really cracked me up in the boarding house scenes as did the supporting cast. I liked how there was no cattiness amongst the ladies. They all looked out for and supported one another which is a rarity in cinema these days. Domhnall Gleeson gives a fine performance as Jim, a change from his usual roles. I can't recommend 'Brooklyn' enough. It will make one cry, laugh, think about one's own life and the choices one's made. As Steven Zeitchik LA TIMES said "If you dislike Brooklyn the movie, you have no soul".

Absolutely Faithful Adaptation that "Sparky" Would Be Proud Of
6 November 2015 | by christopher-cole83 – See all my reviews

Ten stars is too low of a rating! I am a thoroughly invested Peanuts fan, and have been for as long as I can remember (I'll be 32 this year). Peanuts is far and away my all time favorite cartoon. I have always appreciated the blend of childhood innocence with deep theology and philosophy that is present throughout the 65 years since the world was introduced to the lovable blockhead Charlie Brown (actually 68 years going back to 'Li'l Folks').

This movie continues the blend: both modern and classic animation styles that I believe set Blue Sky Studios apart from and ahead of both Pixar and Dreamworks; a classic Vince Guraldi soundtrack with some tastefully and not overdone modern sound; but best of all nearly all the classic tropes and references to story lines blended together in a thoroughly entertaining story that might have come from Schulz himself.

Without giving too much away, this movie has everything any and every super fan of Peanuts could want: kite eating tree; baseball;

Best action movie
9 November 2015 | by kings_faizan (united states) – See all my reviews

Daniel Craig once again prove it, that he is the best james bond than others. I know many people will not agree with me, but yet this is my perception and I think the next 007 star will be more better than daniel craig but the efforts and hard work of daniel craig will always be remembered. He is and always be my james bond in future also. Now about the movie is the scene which i like the most was the last one in which daniel craig and the best in the business BATISTA fight. Both stars had given there 100% in this movie. The bond girl was so sexy and why not every women wheather she is young or old always look damn hot with james bond.

Great animation, not-so-great movie.
2 December 2015 | by Matthew Miller – See all my reviews

I'll keep this simple with no spoilers.

The good: Amazing animation. The environments are incredibly realistic. Surprisingly the characters are probably the "worst" animation in the film, but still good. This is the only reason for 3 stars.

The bad: SLOW. Drawn out boredom punctuated by moments of pretty scary intensity. (Way too intense for young kids, in my opinion.) Very little dialogue. Very few moments of levity. Very little character development. Characters aren't really likable or relatable.

The ugly: Several instances of scary and violent dialogue and very scary situations. I understand were talking about dinosaurs, who were the apex predators of their day, and that they supposedly lived in a brutal environment, but this is supposed to be a kids movie!

Summary: My wife and I took our boys (9 and 4) to see this. We were sorry we did so. My 4 year old sat still as a stone, very unusual for him, and the look on his face alternated between fear and boredom for most of the film. I actually considered taking him out of the theater a couple times. My 9 year old did not laugh once during the movie, also unusual, and told me as we were walking out he thought the movie "was just okay." Sorry to say I can't recommend this as a family movie.
